District 3 2018 Recap

6/12/2018 12:00:00 AM

The 38th District 3 Rally hosted 19 units, including two first-timers. Games were played outdoors on Saturday very near the horse racing track, which proved challenging. The noise from a tractor pull and the pollution from the smoke of some tractors made hearing and breathing a bit difficult. However, some people from the rally spent a good deal of time watching the event (one at 1:00 pm and one at 6:00 pm). Both were fund-raisers for a young lad with cancer and many tractors participated in each event. There was also a big truck show, but most did not get to see this event in another part of the fairground.

Friday night began with a Hot Dog Roast, hosted by Terry & Marty Hart, District 3 Reps from Michigan.  Brad Berlinger and Ray Rowell, from MI Chapter #145 Wing Knutz, helped cook and serve. Chili was provided by Steve and Patty Springer, owners of Poor Farmer's RV Sales, Service and Campground in Fletcher, OH. Chips, cookies, and water were on hand as well.

Free time followed after dinner.

Saturday morning breakfast was pancakes and sausage (prepared by Rick Wright, Brad Berlinger, and Ray Rowell) All are members of MI Chapter #145 Wing Knutz.

The morning game, Washer Toss (doubles), found stiff competition among the players. Playing to "21 exact" during elimination rounds was not easy, but everyone persevered.

Bean Bag Toss (doubles) was played after lunch. As in Washer Toss, playing to "21" exact was difficult, as some players had to be found in later rounds (they were off watching the tractor pull).

Saturday night dinner was prepared by Jim and Jeanne Hlas, OH Chapter #1 Weekenders. It consisted of baked ham, cheesy potatoes, choice of corn or green beans, cole slaw, macaroni salad, and dinner rolls. Dessert was served later.

Following dinner, a game of "Anything Goes" was played, followed by outdoor game winners being introduced and receiving their individual award.

"Anything Goes" consisted of rolling a pecan down a grooved stick, with four teams of four players on each team. The winning team was "The Coachmen", consisting of Jack & Marilyn Shirar (COA from Indiana) and Brad & Paula Berlinger (MI Chapter #145 Wing Knutz). Lots of fun and laughter during this game, for sure.

Dessert (ten delicious pies in several flavors) was served along with an assortment of ice cream and toppings.

Becky Brittingham announced the upcoming Ohio State Rally in August.

Sunday morning a non-denominational service was led by Bob & Darlene Workinger. Darlene read a scripture . Jeanne Hlas, Linda Wright and Marty Hart assisted with a few thought-provoking articles. Bob gave a prayer for safe travels, good health for all, and God's blessings.
